PEM Studios Melbourne - Courses

Term Classes

3hr/week, 8 weeks

for actors who want to learn about PEM and explore its approach to acting

Description:

2hr/week, 5 weeks

Fundamentals I Introduces basic techniques of Neutralisation (returning the actors instrument to an open and neutral state), Natural Deep Breathing (understanding breath as the fuel for Emotion), Access Points of Emotions in the eyes which activates the facial expression system and the Biological Triggers for the first three Basic Emotions: Aggression, Happiness and Grief.

Exercises will be given to work through Cultural and Personal Blockages. This will give you a clear understanding of how the physical access to emotions can take any actor beyond their personal experiences, without recourse to personal trauma or creating disturbing imaginary scenarios

The Class will also focus on the first three fundamental Physical Principals of PEM: Permeability, Separation of Means and Action/Reaction. These principles exist in any great acting performance.

Stephan Perdekamp has created something extraordinary, a method using only an actor’s bio-physiology. This is the acting technique for the 21st century – it would have amazed even Stanislavsky!“

Peter McAllister
Acting Teacher / Certified PEM Instructor, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama

I’m very impressed by the techniques PEM has developed. Ultimately, the physical and the emotional are one.

Mike Alfreds
Director, London

At once new and revolutionary yet somehow timeless and familiar, PEM truly is a paradigm-shift and could well herald in the next major advance in actor training and performance possibility.
